Valbona Valley National Park is a broad, wild valley carved by the Valbona river, with jagged peaks on every side. It's quieter than Theth and a wonderful place to slow down for a few days.
Most visitors arrive by the Lake Koman ferry and leave on foot over the pass to Theth, a route that has become a highlight of any trip to Albania.
Don't miss in Valbona
- Hike Valbona → Theth over the Valbona Pass (about 1,800 m)
- Swim in (very cold) river pools along the valley
- Day hikes to the Kukaj lakes or Rragam
- Guesthouse dinners with local cheese, honey and raki
How to get to Valbona
- Via the Lake Koman ferry, then minibus from Fierzë: a full but spectacular day from Shkodër.
- By road via Bajram Curri, which connects to Kosovo and Tirana.
Watch out for
- Many guesthouses offer to send luggage around by car while you hike to Theth. Arrange it the evening before.
- Start the hike early: the climb is steep and exposed to sun.
- Cash only in most places.
